@Julien

I just took a six-month lease on a studio in Siem Reap. Did rewrite work in Hollywood, and I've recently completed a book on a new theory of film that's doing well in L.A. I like all racquet sports, love the food here. and the local people are great. Walking everywhere while getting used to the heat.

Hi buddy, having spent 12 years here in Phnom Penh, I have seen changes, traffic lights are one, health care another, but still learning the logic of Cambodia takes a long time, and is far different from the west, respect is given and expected, on the roads a beep is not to move but just to let you know they are there, if things go pear shaped you will hear sorry a lot, because this is not the west, where everything has to be yesterday, there are less rights here, but if you are polite and understanding you will find a lot more you can do, patience is a priority, the people are friendly but your word if given can not be changed, with out both parties agreeing, agree a fare in a tuk tuk before you set of it saves an argument later, do not walk down the road with your phone in the road side as you can lose it, just like London, do not carry a knife or a gun you will be arrested, make sure you put on a crash helmet on a motorbike, use ATM next to banks as they have guards present near the machine, get a 30 day e visa then a yearly one then you can leave and come back anytime and then just renew the yearly one, travel between PP and the Provence's are evolving better all the time, but the most important thing to remember is that Cambodians understands how to adapt to many things in life, westerners are not so good at adapting and always think it's the governments problem or someone else, here it's different you are your own adaption and the government will help, they have a king, a prime minister, ministers, comunes, sangatts, all you have to respect as does Cambodians they are a devout religious respectful loyal people, as a foreigner you need to be to, my advice is come here for 3 months and look at where you want to stay permanently and understand that area, then you can relocate with first hand knowledge what I say is just an opinion of a retired old person who leads a comfortable life, to live a comfortable life without being in bars in PP is approximately Inc rent $800 to $ 1000 a month, + airfares & visas, rents go from $200 for a one bed basic flat to $1000 for top of of the range condo, feel free to message any questions, I'm not an authority but I do research a lot, best of adventures buddy.

Just moved to Siem Reap. Screenwriter who left LA because of the fires/Condo burned down. Just wrote a book on a new theory of film. Hope to write here and enjoy the new culture. My book is doing well in LA, happy to teach the theory for free to all kinds of writers. Anyway, very much like what I see of Cambodia, except for the mini bus trip from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap - l should have flown in. It would be nice to meet English speakers while I'm here - learn something from them about this new culture.

Welcome to Siem Reap! Indeed a very sad situation back there in LA  but great that your book is doing well. I'm sure you'll find plenty of creative minds here. If you have any questions about life in Cambodia, feel free to ask on the Cambodia forum

Welcome to Siem Reap. The bus and van rides are the way to get around mostly. We go to Battambang on the bus every so often. Takes 3 hours. Finding people in Siem Reap should not be challenging. Often I sit over at viva off pub street and find a variety of people to talk to. Beatnik bar is nice too. Best for me though are the Cambodian coffee shops in our neighborhood. Managed to meet a nice variety of Khmer people and talk with them. Going to Angkor temples can be good too. After awhile here you can get a free pass to enter.

Take care and enjoy. I think you will enjoy Siem Reap. I've been here 3 years this time. Have a Khmer partner that makes all the difference. Daily life is quite good.

Hi everybody, my name is Peer. I am the new guy here in the forum 😉 I decided to become also the new guy in Cambodia (especially Siem Reap Area) as an expat (or even more with a permanent residency.

But right now, I am still a visitor in Cambodia (my third time).

Originally I am from Hamburg, Germany (with a german passport). In Germany I am running an own therapy practice for Neurofeedback therapy and psychotherapy, because I am psychologist, coach, social pedagogue, and also neuroscientist.

I also opened a practice in London, UK several years ago. And I was the first neurofeedback therapist in the UK (and all around 40 therapists now, have been educated by myself). As therapist  I am specialized in ADHD, neurodivergence, trauma, depression and addiction. And I am also do lecturing and education in these fields, and people say that I am an expert regarding ADHD, and neurodivergence. Probably true, because I created for example several online courses and trainings, wrote two books and offer trainings for professionals (therapists, teacher, physicians, parents, etc).

Unfortunately the situation in Germany is not very good. I am not very happy with the politics in Germany. And since quite a while I am planning to leave (all preparations are done, but I still have a mother-in-law (more like a mother) who celebrated her 100th birthday in November 2024. She is mentally very well, but she depends help for continually living in her own house. And as long she is alive, I cannot leave.

Of course I wish her several more years, but of course it is possible that she dies soon (which is fine for her). And I am burning to come over to Cambodia …

Long text, right?

To close:

Here is what I can offer:

loads of expertise in psychology, education, ADHD, neuroscience, lecturing, content,… Education: Four(!) university degrees (Psychology, Education, Neuroscience, and …. yes…. law (but I never worked in this field). I am also paramedic. I have loads of work experiences in tourist industry as team leader for tourguides in the US, Germany and the UK. I am a very good advisor (even for big companies like Airbus), and listener. I am expert in body language. I am so-called „high-talented“ and „high-sensitive“ (I cannot describe it, but I read and feel people, and mostly I am right with my emotions with others). I offer nine languages including Japanese (but unfortunately not -yet- Khmer), I am choir singer, private pilot and flight instructor for small single engine planes, and I love different culture, humans, humanity, and peace.

My dream: I want to live in Cambodia and be part of a great development and improvement of the country. I would love to support people and do a small part to make the world a little bit better. I try to improve education and ADHD and neurodivergence trainings.

I wish you all a pleasant time. And I wish all of us peace.

Greetings, from Siem Reap ðŸ€

Hello

I have recently moved from UK to Siem Reap - I am 77. Yes UK and Europe are in a mess.

Ex alcoholic (I say ex because I had to stop 7 years ago).

I have only just realized that I am manic depressive (think it's called bipolar now).

I'm going out of my mind here in Siem Reap. I think you will be able to help a lot of people here!

I wish you all the best

John kerr
