Purchasing a vechicle in Portugal

Wim Kay

From what I’ve seen secondhand cars are expensive in Portugal.
Is it better to purchase new?
Is finance available easily?
Any info would be greatly appreciated !

We will be purchasibg a car also and would be interested in any information on used cars.  Is it beneficial to go to Germany and buy a new or used car?  Is xar insurance expensive?  Any age restrictions?

Thank you

If you import a car from another country that will cost you money and a lot of paper work.

Hi Dan From information I’ve gotten, second hand vechicles are very expensive in Portugal and generally have high mileage.
I also know thought of Germany but apparently you will pay a import tax unless you can prove you have owned the vehicle for at least one year?
Apparently police look out for foreign registered vechicles and check the time spent in Portugal?
Hence my question on new vechicles and the financing thereof?

Wim Kay

Hi yes, that’s the info I’ve got
Hence investigating new car prices and financing but have had no luck online

PT used cars are more expensive than new in US.
BUT.... If you try to bring in a non-EU vehicle it will be expensive or impossible due to a required document Certificate of Compliance. Some cars can be made eligible for a few hundred dollars, some not at all.
