Need recommendation for dentist in Asuncion by Pman

The tilte says it all really, no major work just a general check up.

Christie

I can second Dr. Neufeld. We've been to him many times, never a bad experience. Another office we have used with good results is near La Costa hospital, at San Antonio 235 c/ Gral. Santos, Barrio Jara (ph: 021-222-196). We've seen several ... Read More

Money by melusine84

This might be my last question before moving (here's hoping). I would like to bring a lot of my money with me. I'll have a joint account once in Paraguay, so it's not a problem once I'm there. However- the U.S. let's $10,000 in undeclared. Does ...

Christie

This is a little dated, but I just noticed y'all are talking about difficulties in bank accounts/ATM fees. Several expats I know have accounts with MaxiCambios, which is a check-cashing agency in Shopping del Sol mall and several other places. ... Read More

experience with private health insurance? by wilf1

Has anyone got experience with private health insurance? Are there any? What clinics do they cover? Is dental care included? I've lived in Argentina before, all health services are free just like in Wales, but you have to pay the dentist ...

Christie

I don't have any experience with naturopathic doctors here yet, but we did do a lot of research on private health insuranc. After checking into several different availabilities, we decided to go with Asismed. We bought their Medical Plus option, ... Read More

PROBLEMS YOU FIND MOVING HERE by Jfinestra

Being a Paraguayan citizen, I find really easy to move around here, but I am interested to know what are the more common problems foreigners find when moving to Py.

Christie

Jfinestra, Probably the thing that was the biggest challenge for us was the public transportation. Going from town to town wasn't so bad, but the bus lines (colectivos) within Asuncion are really confusing. We weren't familiar at first with which ... Read More

Residence permit / paper work and documents by barrister_py

For the process, it is basically as follow: - first go to a bank an open a bank account with at least 5,000 USD. this would help you prove you have sufficient funds on your application for residency. I recommend you Banco Vision for a saving ...

Christie

Okay, I'll tell you how we skipped that bank account/$5000 thing altogether, but let me preface this with an acknowledgment that a.) I was REALLY nice to the Migraciones staff and they took pity on me once or twice, and also ripped me a couple of ... Read More

Exiting Paraguay While Awaiting Approval of Cedula Application by majbjb

Does anyone know if it's permissable to leave/exit the country while your waiting for your cedula application to be approved, or does it somehow invalidate the application? Thanks!

Christie

You will also need the certificado de retorno (return certificate), even after having a cedula and your permanent residency. The good news is that once you buy this certificate (from Migraciones), it lasts 3 years, and you can use it over and over. ... Read More

Our FBI (fingerprint) check did not have an expiration, and we were not required, or even asked, to have a local police check from the States. It was listed on one of the papers we got from Migraciones, but we were told that the FBI check covered ... Read More

We were told that owning a house or land of sufficient value would negate the requirement for the bank account. We were also told that we couldn't open an account by several banks, because we didn't have cedulas. The house deed should help you ... Read More

One tip: The certificates you get from interpol (police clearance) and your local police station (Vida y Residencia) have expiration dates, so don't go for those until you have your other things stamped and ready to turn in. Things such as your ... Read More

Gardening by melusine84

Does anyone know of any plants (flowers or fruit trees for a backyard) that would grow nicely? I'd like to begin to plant the patio :) Any good resources? Any places to go for obtaining seeds/plantlings? Thank you!!!

Christie

I guess I'll have to give in and visit one of these places. I see the viveros everywhere, but I've found that if I tell my neighbors that I like certain plants or trees, they show up soon after with plantings or seeds. :) Gotta love this country! Read More

Infos about living in Paraguay. by micha3

Hi, can anyone tell me a bit about living in Paraguay?

Christie

You can go to a cyber cafe and pay to use the internet for an hour at a time (or more, or less, of course), and most have chat/skype capabilities. I'd advise that you go to one of the "cybers" (SEE buhrs) in the large grocery stores, if this is ... Read More

Cost of living in Paraguay by expat.com

Hi everybody, It would be very useful to talk about the cost of living in Paraguay. Don't forget to mention where in Paraguay you are living. How much does it cost to live in Paraguay? > accommodation prices > public transportation fares (tube, ...

There are some foods you can't find (or that are "rare" and thus expensive), but there are good substitutes. For example, if you like normal peanut butter, you're really only going to find the natural crushed peanuts here, like you'd eat from the ... Read More
