Hi Mal,

Fantastic!  I had the same feeling but I think mine was different than your scare ...

I sailed in 2006 over there, stayed 3 full days and felt a huge force, a regret for what people all over the world do and say for nothing, for everything that happened to me up to that age (54), for all the stupid fights (class warfare, power, armies), NONE of which ever influenced the paradise life which the few people living there have.
You are confronted with a negation of everything you know coming from the simplicity of life in that speck of land.
(When I say 'you' I'm actually referring to the visitor who happens to go there).
My choice would be an island a bit bigger than Mayreau (twice the size and twice the elevation).

I sold my boat so I have no clue when again I can visit Mayreau, which is different from Pitcairn (50 people), Ascension (880), Tristan da Cuhna (300) ...

I am afraid that if I go there one more time, I would never return.  It's called 'escapism'...  I am afraid of myself ..  :).

I was there only once, and got shocked. Now I know that if I visit again, I shall stay forever, and never return to 'civilization'.

Hi Pete,

This is a very good question.
They are very simple people, smiling all the time (proof of nothing worrying them, you know, there is a fish in the ocean to catch for lunch at any time ...), an image of what someone wants to be ...

Mayreau, Canouan and Union islands form a triangle of unparalleled beauty.  The landscape will hypnotize you, the tranquility of the place will hypnotize you, the simplicity of life will hypnotize you and last but not least, the luxurious yachts will hypnotize you too.

Yes, places to escape to indeed do exist.  They are icons which man failed to ruin Â…

Hello Mal,

Please describe your scare to live there. Don't be shy! :D

Primadonna

Never been there and never heard of it. :unsure
The link you give is not very much useful to me so to make such a huge decision, you have to visit the place before.

I am interested in a close community and live a simple life.

Who knows?

magnus

Hello John C

I know exactly the feeling you had, that of simplicity, that of people who were generally friendly with nothing asked in return, that people were considered people no matter wearing a home sewn t-shirt or a shirt from Prada, people had no ambition or chase to have a better moped then the neighbours or be richer then the next.
Most importanly one had the feeling of that today is forever and tomorrow never comes.
I been to such a place, it is scary, because I would give up everything to be able to live such a life.
The place I talk about has slightly more inhabitants then this Mayreau island, I figure 1200-1500 people, there is always tourists, they got elecric pretty much everywhere and hey even a internetcafé on dial-up.
I can recomend a visit but I warn you, you may never want to leave. It is a small atoll Island called Aitutaki in the country Cook Islands.

Cheers,
Magnus

Hello Jumara,  :)

Mayreau is an idyllic place. Great for (long) visits.
Info on kids is in the article at the link in my first post.

In respect to your situation now in embattled Syria, I believe immigration to Canada is a better choice for you, where you may qualify for political asylum right away.

To be honest - if I could move there tomorrow I would.  But unfortunately all dreams involve waking up at some time and then I would have to consider things like income and housing.  If I could conquer those two problems (and believe me on an island like that my needs would be minimal) I'd be swimming there now :)
Sounds beautiful and I want nothing more than to be able to live, dive and enjoy a natural environment with my partner.

If you dont mind I gonna close my eyes now and start dreaming again :)

Hi there, :)
1). Income and housing? How about online business and yacht for 'housing'?
If you found out the question, then you should be able to also find answers.

2). Did you know about Mayreau before?
How about Mustique?

3). I do not mind people dreaming on their own or  :top: making them dream the achievable dream ...
