Safety and Security

GuestPoster62872

I'm an American retiring with a Kenyan wife to Nanyuki area. I have quite a bit of experience in Kenya, but I was wondering what expats might say about the security of that area. My wife and I are hoping for a quiet life just out side of Nanyuki. Please do advise.

@patkabura, Kenya is indeed good security-wise. Though, are you looking for an urban set up or a village hommy? You can get in touch, I advise

Nanyuki is arguably one of the most secure towns in Kenya due to the presence of Kenyon and British military bases. There’s a sizeable expat community there, which means quite a variety of restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. When you say just outside Nanyuki, where exactly as you mean?

Near the Maiyan resort and Swara ranch. 20 minutes from town

Security wise that area should be fine. Access wise the roads in that area have often been poorly maintained, so you may find having a higher/4x4 vehicle would be an advantage.

Greetings

My wife and I are both dual (USA & Kenya) citizens. We have been living in Kenya since 1980. We are also in the process of retiring to the Nanyuki area. We bought some land near Jua Kali and are constructing our age-in-place design home. In that area, we have a Community Watch patrol that is funded by the local inhabitants. We also work closely with the area chief. Our neighbors have basically told us that security is good in the area. The exception being that both cattle and goats tend to be stolen from time-to-time. However, they don't experience carjackings or home invasions. Feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss this, or other issues, more.

Blessings and welcome.

Hello Mr Kingsbury, it looks as if we are neighbors. I would have many questions about my near future in the area. Would it be OK if I inquire with further questions? My wife Joyce will be in Nanyuki in November to view our property. I can be found in facebook under the name Patrick Lyons Daly.

God bless

Hello Frank, I'm Patrick Daly. You are in Nderi? My oldest stepson lives in that area. I am an American. Looking forward to making the aqaintance of expats for information and maybe make a friend or two. I met my wife 32 years ago and and have a very sweet kenyan family. Though we visit on occasion it won't be until the end of 2027 that I will reside there permanently. Hiking and gardening are my passions, but after a pint or two I can usually muster the courage to sing Karaoke.
