Post Covid19 BAN

natache54

Good day,
I am easing into my move to Kenya and I plan to come for 90 days first to see if I really like it as soon as the ban is lifted. I was looking at some AirBNBs however considering the pricing, I can get a real apartment for much less. I am looking at Kilimani which had 6 cases of Covid as of two days ago. I need to be in.an area with very good walk-ability to  stores and restaurants close by. I am open to suggestions about this. I putting my plan in place now and expect to be there by the beginning of July.

Thank you

Bear in mind that a real apartment may well be unfurnished and you may also be expected to arrange it to be repainted at the end.  Tenancies are generally min 6 months.  May not be as good value as it first appears.

I'd recommend waiting  to see how the Covid-19 situation is going to pan out before putting too many plans in place.  July is only 2 months away and at the moment, arrivals in Kenya are forced to go immediately to quarantine at the travellers expense.

Try looking at the various Nairobi expat housing market sites on Facebook. There at least a couple sites that list housing options. Definitely check with friends about locations. Things can change quickly. Generally Junction, Kilimani, Lavington, Westands, Gigiri are all locations that have walkable services.

My plans to move to Kenya are also, of course, on hold.  I'm thinking the end of the year is probably more realistic, hoping the panic will have calmed down by then.  You refer to arrivals in Kenya being automatically sent to quarantine for 2 weeks - is that the Kenyan quarantine sites or is one allowed to quarantine in one's home?

People arriving were being sent to particular hotels, but i understand that there may have been some relaxing of this, to allow people to quarantine in their own homes.
