My experience of getting a visa

ukclaire

I thought I would share my experience in getting a visa for Libya - and also as I still cannot reply to PM's but first a BIG THANKYOU to Sandman for keeping me sane over the weekend.

Well I went to the Embassy in London this morning, although I got into London for 8am, events conspired that I actually got there at 10.30am. The waiting room was packed BUT most people had been sorted and were waiting for fingerprints, I was seen in 20 mins.

I handed over the following:

£150 in cash
Travel form (plane and hotel)
Bank Docs (will come to them soon)
Passport that included the Translation
4 passport photos
Offer Letter
Completed Visa form with reference number

I was then told to wait for fingerprints, that was done quickly and was then told to come back next Monday between 2-3pm to collect the visa and passport.

So, I am not just sorting stuff out here then I can get over to Tripoli...I am scared, excited, nervous, sick, amazed and everything else inbetween.

Now Bank Documents, this has been done to the death but I was still worried so will lay out here what they want.

It must be a statement (as Sandman has said just needs to show your name) one guy had his prtinted out from the ATM, of ONE month, no more than 3 months old. Cross off your Account Number and Sort Code as well.

They didn't even look at the documents, just ticked them off, checked the passport translation and bingo..visa given.

Hope this helps.

Regards
Claire

Good to hear that all went well, it's not as daunting as you might like to think. :)

So i guess once all documents are submitted and accepted it means that you will get the visa the following week. Am I right?

They check your docs before taking the visa fee. If you don't have all the docs they send you away without taking the money (British Embassy in Libya take note!).

There's no guarantee that just because they've taken your money that the visa will be granted, but it's a pretty good indication. I've never heard of anyone being refused a visa after having their docs and visa fee accepted but I guess it's possible.

I think a better question is, what is the normal turnaround time for the visa to be issues (1 week?), and have you heard of instances where it took longer than the normal turnaround time?
