I would like to tranfer money back to my home country (Thailand). I know about the services of Western Union and Moneygram, but I think they are a bit expensive, have a limit of 1000 USD per time, and 5000 USD per year, which is very inconvenient for me since each time I go there is a very long line of workers waiting to send their money back home. Plus, I don't need for the money to arrive to home in 10 minutes' time (several working days is fine for me).

Therefore, I am looking at the option of transferring money through normal SWIFT code bank transfer. I heard that Aman bank provides the best service, so I would like to ask the following:

1. If one is to make a bank transfer arrangement, does one need to open an account with the bank?

2. Has anybody transferred money via normal bank transfer? Which bank did you use? What was the service fees and costs involved? how many days did it take? And does it have any sort of limit per transaction?

3. If you could provide me with contacts (someone who speaks English...) for a recommended and bank then that would be fantastic!

We use Bank of Valletta ... bov.com/page.asp?n=newsdetails&i=6898&text=1聽 .... but not for cash transactions. Salary is recd. in the same bank and then transferred by us when & where we wish. I think it takes 2-3 days for the tranfer and it can be done online ... you can find out from their branch in Tripoli.
You do have to open an account in the bank and I don't think there is a limit to the transfer amount. I'm not sure about the charges .. will let you know if I get more info.

answer- 15dinars swift fee, 2% commission on the amount you sending[ again it varies from bank to bank]

answer- For Jamahirya bank- the limit was 10,000USD[ again depends on the bank]
