@coolinny, I used to be able to use AMEX everywhere in Mauritius before 2019 but apparently, AMEX is being processed by MCB and vendors do not want to pay the high fees associated with the use of that card.聽 I think that Visa and Mastercard will be more common now.聽 Hope that this helps.
