Moving to MUR

Richie Rich R

Hello

As someone moving from South Africa to Mauritius, would a monthly salary of 150 000MUR be enough to live comfortably?

Housing and private schooling seems to be around 100 000MUR per month....

Hello Richie Rich R,

Thank you for asking your questions here. 1f609.svg

I would say that a monthly salary of Rs 150,000 is more than enough to live comfortably, but the lifestyle will definitely differ from person to person.

Do you have any idea where you would like to rent a house or a flat?

How many members does your family consist of?

Cheers,

Cheryl

@Cheryl  We would probably live around Moka, Flic en Flac. We are a family of 4 (2 kids who would be going to private primary school)

Cheryl

You should definitely read the Living in Mauritius guide for expats.

I would suggest that the main costs will be accomodation, and schools. These will vary depending on your preferences. Living costs will also vary slightly depending on whether you do all your shopping in the big malls or in local shops and markets.

@Tookays Thanks for the response

@Richie Rich R

those amounts sound very generous - way above what the average Mauritian would take home and spend.

Take a look at the latest cost of living comparison on the Numbeo website (this data is updated rvery month):

Cost of living in Mauritius is, on average, 17.3% higher than in South Africa.

Rent in Mauritius is, on average, 11.2% lower than in South Africa.

@Ceresiet thanks for the response.

I have looked at Number as well.

It's just that as an expat the kids have to go to a private school for English medium as the cost is about 50000mur for 2 kids.

Accommodation is around 40000mur as well....that is half the package spent!
