Criminal records check for a 10-year retirement residency permit

mike102

Good morning. I'm a 66yo British citizen hoping to emigrate from the UK to Mauritius in the autumn. I've just applied to the police for a certificate showing my criminal records, required for the first (online) part of the 10-year retirement permit application process.

Assuming the certificate won't show driving convictions, the only 'crime' on there will be in relation to my arrest and later conviction for 'obstructing the highway' in Parliament Square during a protest. Does anyone here have any idea if my application might be rejected on these grounds, and if so, is there leave to appeal? I hate to think of my dream of emigrating here might be shattered by this one issue! Thanks.

Driving conviction does not show as for your conviction for obstructing the highway would depend on the sentence

Have you applied for the basic check or the enhanced one

Please wait to see what the police check shows.ย  It is not like you have been a habitual criminal or a wanted man.

In addition, the Mauritian authorities will apply their own interpretation to the report. At least you are not trying to hide anything, and that should be in your favour.

Fingers crossed for you.

Not jailed then no problem

Mike are you going to buy a home and if so and spend a certain amount then a residency status is more than 10 years have you checked this out?

@yeti1952

Thanks. When I went on the police website it didn't offer a choice of basic or enhanced. I was fined for my 'crime'.
