From the start of the online application, gathering the required documentation, finding a long term rental accommodation etc...

I believe there is also a face to face interview and medical assessment that has to be done in Mauritius.

Just thought I would reach out and see if anyone has recently gone through the process from the U.K

3 months, 6 months, a year? ....I need to start planning!

It says it may take 7-8 weeks but I'll suggest around 3 months if you have all your documents in order.

If you are referring to the whole process of moving here, I would allow about 6 months.

Are you able to give me an indication on how many times I might need to fly over to Mauritius during the process, or would it be best to book a couple of weeks towards the end of the process, to find accommodation and have the medical?

Welcome. There have been a few people recently who went through the process of getting a retirement visa. The process is quite straight-forward and takes a bit of time, but could be less than 6 months.

Register your online account with the EDB. Gather all your documents - the EDB has a list. Scan all the documents and keep them safe. That itself can take upto 6 weeks, especially the 'police certificate' . That itself is not difficult and you can apply online with the fee. Contact your bank to certify your finances as required.

Once you have uploaded all the documents you will get an agreement in principle from the EDB. You then have upto 90 days to enter Mauritius, as far as I know -- I would go as soon as possible. Rent somewhere for 3-6 months to get a local address. Get a Sim card, get your medical tests done. Then again upload the final documents required. And wait for an appointment with the immigration people. Take along all your original documents and passport,etc. Keep your fingers firmly crossed!

I am sure there will be others with better and more up-to-date advice. The EDB does help, but you might not notice it (TFIC).

See Tookays response below - I meant 6 months for everything including moving your things, finding a home etc. How many times you fly here depends on things you may need to do here. Do whatever you can online from where you are & only come here when needed - or it will get expensive.
