Retirement residency scheme

craigconley

Hi

Are there any expats out there who have moved to Mauritius under the retirement residency scheme ?

Can anyone recommend a company to assist with the process, preferably one they have used.

Many thanks

Just went through the process, with my wife as primary applicant. We had a brilliant lady help us, that is based in Tamarin. You want it done, she is your point of entry!

She was physically there when we did the medicals, even going to the EDB, she was there, facilitating the whole process. Considering the time she spent with us and what she did during the whole process, her fees were also more than reasonable!!

DM me for more information about her.

Welcome.

Lots of people have done that directly without engaging anyone. The rules are quite straightforward and are on the EDB website. More importantly, have you visited and stayed for few weeks to make sure that it is the right place for you? Where on the island do you wish to live? What sort of retired life are you looking to lead?

Of course if you wish to engage someone to take you through the process, please follow as above posters have done.

Best wishes.

We used Haute Consultancy and Management Services and they were phenomenal. I think the Lady was Lena.

Hello, For the retiree residence permit, does this entail two separate visits to Mauritius - (1) First for doing the medical exam and then (2) a  Second time for the appointment to verify original documents? Or, is it possible to combine both in one visit? Also, for the second visit, are the spouse and kids also supposed to be there or would it suffice for just the main retiree applicant to go to the appointment with all the original documents? Thanks.

Hello Abhijit,

Welcome on board !

You can start the process online by submitting your documents on the dedicated portal while the medical exams should be done here.

Connect with the officers of the EDB for assistance :

Hello Bhavna,

Thanks for your reply. After doing the medical exam in Mauritius and submitting it to EDB, EDB will schedule an appointment to verify the original documents. Does that mean I have to go to Mauritius again, or can the medical exam and document verification be done during the same trip to Mauritius? Thanks again,

Abhijit

Create an account and apply online via the Economic Development Board (EDB) portal :

Submit application and documents online.

Once approved:

You’ll receive an Approval-in-Principle.

You’ll need to travel to Mauritius, complete a medical check-up locally, and finalise procedures in person.

Residence Permit issued: usually valid for 5 years, renewable.

So, it means that you will be coming to Mauritius only once....

Hi Everyone

@@Abhijit Bagal

I have just completed my retirement visa (and dependant for my Wife) ourselves, without an Agent, so it is possible if you do your research and read the posts on the Forum and ask questions, and also read the guidelines on the EDB.. Of course you can choose and Agent to help you no problem.

As mentioned you need to register on the NELS platform and submit all the initial required documents with includes a police clearance.  Once you have done this to the satisfaction of the EDB you will be issued with and AGREEMENT IN PRINCIPLE which is valid for 90 days, and that is where you travel to Mauritius to complete the process.  This will be the Medical (and for your dependant if applicable).  My suggestion is o to arrive on a Sunday, to maximise your time, prebook your medical in advance for the Monday (make sure its a 24 hour turn around - we used city clinic grand baie at a cost of MUR 5500.00PP) and then you can submit your medical on the NELS platform on the Tuesday, along with your tourist visa and CERTIFIED proof of foreign bank funds (was USD18000 but may go up to USD24000 shortly) and await an appointment from the EDB.  Should be within 4 working days I think.  You go to the appointment to verify all your documents and should be told to come back for your permit and ID within about another 4 working days.  If you have all your ducks in a row, and are organised, the process from submitting your medicals once in Mauritius to getting your permit should be about 2 weeks.  ONLY once you have your permit can you apply for the dependent visa.  We found the EDB extremely helpful with queries and the process,  and the staff at the facility in Ebene are just so professional and helpful.  Altogether a very good experience, Kind regards, Nick
