Walking with your dog

Stefanie Parent-Bos
Hi you all!

Hope you are doing well.

I have a question about to walk with your dog to the streets. How do you do that? Because a lot of street dogs are very aggressive to other dogs, not all of them of course. We are from the Netherlands, so I’m not used to walk my dog to the streets with a lot of street dogs around. Back in The Netherlands every thing is going a lot different and I’m curious about your experiences.

We got a German Shepard puppy, he is almost 4 months. We do take him to the beach some times in de early morning.

I hope you will give me some advice or tell me how you walk you dog and how many times a day you walk with your dog? Thanks a lot and have a nice evening!

Love,
Stefanie

Hello Stefanie,

Welcome on board !

Apart from finding a safer place, free from stray dogs, I don't see how you could go about this.
From what i see, people carry a stick or bottle of water with them if ever they need to scare stray dogs. They are defensive of their territory, which is unfortunately quite natural...

Not many solutions here...

Be careful and mindful, if you spot a stray dog, it will be better to avoid it.

I carry an ultrasonic "dog repeller". I have never been attacked, but I have used it a couple of times when I have felt uncertain.
It doesn't hurt the dogs. It just startles them.

Here are some videos dog owners should watch:

Since there are so many dogs here that don't have collars, consider carrying a spare slip lead.
