Moving to Johannesburg

TomNJerry

Hi,

I am a software professional in New Delhi, India. I have got an offer to work for a SA based IT firm. They are saying that they will provide me ZAR 18000 per month. In addition to that, they will provide me a house, medical insurance for my family and a car.

How good is the offer? Shall I join it or leave it?

Cheers!

Hi, it also depends on where you will live, if you have kids that needs schooling (private is the best but pricey).  Driving to and from work can be a nightmare depending again on where work will be in relation to home.  Personal taxes can be high (and cars are taxed as a perk); medical is worth quite a bit (make sure you don't have to contribute 50% as is the norm with most companies).

Honestly that is little, the cost of living is actually high and if you have a family you absolutely need more than that.
