#Moving to Asia!!

silvania101

Hi, me and my husband we are looking to move to Asia(Malaysia, Indonesia) and we are looking into the in's and out's of this idea. How's life to a expat from america? My husband is a club DJ and i haven't work for a few years but i am very willing to work to help this dream of ours come true. How about working permit? Is there a chance for a decent salary with out a college degree? I have tons of questions. If you think the information you have is relevant to moving to Asia, please respond to my post.
Thank you
Sil & Daniel

Huge can of worms...Club DJ is he a 'name' in which case look at Singapore first, expensive but they have a 'Club Culture' and you will have a much better chance of picking up work.
One way around the expense of living/working in Singapore is to live in Johor Bahru, Malaysia and commute to Singapore.
Indonesia forget it, everyone and their monkey is a 'DJ' and there is no way a club is going to pay for a foreign import plus work permit etc. when they can get a local to 'mime' to Digweed/Sachet mix tapes for the cost of a Pepsi, and you would not have a hope in hell of getting a job as a 'following spouse'
Having said that, opportunities do come up on Bali now and then, but I am out of touch with the club scene there.
Malaysia I have no idea of the current situation.
Thailand, overloaded with foreign DJ's living 'the dream'
If you can afford it take a 'backpackers' holiday and visit Singapore first, there is good, cheap, clean accommodation there, the usual clientelle should be a good source of information. Use Singapore as a base and look around, the Likes of Air Asia and Tiger Air have cheap flights all over SE Asia.
Good Luck

I'm one of the monkey DJs.
Absolutely no hope of well paid work out here but you will get guest presenter spots on Indonesian radio, unpaid or they'll buy you lunch.
I did a lot when I was in Central Java but only for fun as there's isn't a penny in it.
