Bangkok or Ho Chi Minh

TylerWood

Hi, me and my SO are planning to move to SE Asia in September. However, we are split between moving to Thailand (Bangkok) or Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh). We would be planning on moving and living there for 1-3 years.

To help us make our decision, I was wondering what the main difference between the two places are and also what the prospects of finding work in the two cities are? We both have Business/Marketing degrees and experience so we would ideally be looking for something in that field. We've also have TEFL qualification as more of a back up way of finding work.

What are the job prospects in the city in Business and/or Marketing fields?

Is either countries Visa particularly more difficult to obtain than the other?

What are the main experiential differences between the cities? tourism, nightlife, food ects...?

Cheers for taking the time to read and respond to this :)

HCM is a better chioce. Thailand is no longer a good place to live.
Tks!

Why do you say that? Is it to do with the levels of tourism there?

Hi
Personally  I prefer  hoi an to thailand  by far.   I reside in Goa  for 5 months of a year &
Now chosen hoi an for the remainder  as the monsoons  in  india is just to much for me
To handle.
Hoi an is such a beautiful  place to chill to you decide otherwise.  Who knows how you
Are going to feel next week let  alone next year.
Peace is within.

Hands down for all you have asked about Thailand is by far your best bet. I have been living here in Saigon for 7 years and it really has nothing to offer other than a young population and bars. You can live cheap here if you are ok with poor quality food and bad housing. If you want better food and housing you will pay though the nose for it. Definitely not worth it. As far as jobs don’t count on it unless you speak Vietnamese and even then you are looking at third world wages which equates to working about 12 hours a day with no weekends and a net of $750 usd a month. Most foreigners are teachers here and earn about $5 usd an hour and work only a few hours a day. You will be using your savings to live here like you want even with a job or submit to living like a Vietnamese.. I myself have been planning to move to Bangkok or chang mai. I go to Thailand every 3 months and it is so much cleaner, advanced and easier to get a good paying job.

Regarding visas it is so easy to live here indefinitely by just leaving the country and coming right back in for a new visa. Thailand is much stricter but that is also why the country is kept so much better.
