Bringing my girlfriend from China to live in Brunei

Tranquilo

Hi,

I was just offered a job in Brunei in July. I have been living with my girlfriend for 3 years in China and she is Chinese. I am now in Canada and will fly from here.

She is considering joining me next year (January, 2016).

How do we do this?

Thanks

Gravitas

Brunei is very strictly Muslim, so she will receive no recognition as your partner because in Muslim countries you must be married to obtain a dependent visa. She can only be a tourist.

Can she live with me and get a visa to stay?

How do other common law couples do it?

Gravitas is correct. It is a strict muslim country
The penalty for living together; $4000 fine and / or 1 year in prison. I got this after a quick Google search.

Get married.

Maybe others have up to date information on this.

Check with Canadian High Commission in Brunei for advice on this.
