Quarantine for dogs

Teacher On Duty

Hi everyone,

I’m currently planning a move to China (possibly to the Guangzhou/Zengcheng area) and would love to bring my small dog with me.

I’ve read that quarantine may be avoidable if certain conditions are met (microchip, valid rabies vaccination, titer test, etc.), but I’m having a hard time finding clear and up-to-date information from people who’ve actually gone through the process in the last couple of years.

  1. Is it really possible to avoid quarantine completely when entering China with a dog?
  2. Which ports of entry are considered ā€œdesignatedā€ where this might be allowed?
  3. What documents and timing are crucial?
  4. And most importantly — what were your experiences like? Was your pet stressed, was the process smooth, or did you face any surprises?

If you used a pet relocation service, I’d also be very grateful for any recommendations or warnings about companies to trust (or avoid).

Thank you in advance — I know how complex and emotional this process can be, and your advice will really help me prepare and keep my dog safe.
