Beijing or Shanghai relocation with wife and kids?

We're moving to China with a good expat package. however, we have a choice between living in Beijing or Shanghai.

My daughters are 5 and 8.聽 We would like to experience as much of the chinese culture as possible and don't want to just hang out in one of the American "compounds".聽

Only having lived in the Philippines and Korea (prior to high school), would you recommend Beijing or Shanghai?

shanghai, most definitely! the city has so much more life. its vibrant and colourful.

beijing can be so miserable, and so stuctured. and its so polluted.

shanghai is lively, modern, and full of good vibes. also its on the coast, near to the sea, so in a nice location. shanghai is definitely a nice place to have your daughters grow up.
