So, here is a question, where do teens in Dalian turn to when they are contemplating suicide? I mean, back home (in Canada) there were layers on layers of organizations that sought individuals who needed help. Here, in Dalian-nothing (at least nothing advertised to students or schools from what I see). Kind of sad really?

I am working at a school that could really benefit from this sort of association and/or partnership, would anyone be able to offer any sort of support about social welfare programs that support students/adolescents/teens/adults in this area (pootentially self-harming)?

I do not intend to sound callous, but the culture in China is not one that lends itself to teenager suicide.

[1] Students have a large and wide ranging support group of friends.
[2] Students have a traditional conservative family that involves multiple generations of mutual support.
[3] Students are hard driven and the moment any grades start to fall, all heck breaks loose.

Yes, there are those that do contemplate hurting themselves. Yes it is considered a serious enough issue. However, the Chinese culture is one of being proactive rather than reactive in situations such as this. Long before the child is absorbed in this dangerous realm, the friends, teachers, society, family, extended family and neighbor down that hall will all be aware that something is wrong.

Good or bad, you are never alone in China.

Thus, it is not the kind of environment that permits the growth of mental illness leading to the kinds of stress that will result in suicide.

Not to sound negative, but I wholeheartedly disagree.

I think China is one place that folks are inexplicably alone.

[1] Students have a large and wide ranging support group of friends.
-->well, not always...just common sense/that's like saying all farmers have crops and livestock

-->Who are also conservative (as you said) and may not support careers or education in the liberal arts; young love relationships; etc.
