Railway System??

angrynerds

Hello Everyone!
My name's Melissa, I'm from Mexico.
I will be in India for at least 3 months doing an intership.
The thing is I'll be arriving to Mumbai the last days of December around 10pm but my final destination is Jalgaon... I know I need to take the train to get there but I'm not really sure how to go about it... plus I'll be on my own so I need to be extra careful about train tickets and such.
Also there's not much information about it on the web, or at least I haven't found it... Does anyone has any tips that can help me out?? thanks in advance :)

Hello Melissa
This is Prasad from mumbai There are quite a number of trains that you can catch from mumbai to reach Jalgaon it depends on the time that you want to reach Jalgaon. The journey takes around 8 to 9 hrs. It is better to book tickets in advance as there can a lot of rush.Since you have mentioned that you will be arriving in mumbai around 10.00 p.m it is better hat you catch next day's train. If you can provide your email id I can definately send you more information.

Thanks
Regards

Hi, You have two options for travelling to Jalgaon in the State of Maharashtra by train or bus. You will be landing at T II of Airport so I will suggest you to take a bus from Western Express Highway in Andheri where a few bus operators have their pick up. However most buses for Jalgaon leave by 6-7PM from above location and so will suggest that you stay in Mumbai for a day and then proceed to Jalgaon, if your schedule permits. For trains search on or and for bus service on , , It is desired that you book your tickets On Line for reserving a berth/seat as buses and trains are always full. Don't hesitate to contact if you need any assistance as we are based in Andheri-E just 1.25Km from T II. Hope you enjoy your visit to India.

Naval provided some good websites. I could be wrong, but I believe that the primary, accurate and official website is However, I have found every Indian government website to be extremely user-unfriendly. (If anyone can show me how to get any information from india.gov.in then I would be greatly appreciative of that.)
Therefore, I think that you have two other choices:
1) To go to the train ticketing office. In Kolkata, it is called Fairlie Place. I was not certain where it was in Mumbai, so through a Google search I found
2) To go to any of the hundreds, if not thousands, of travel agencies in Mumbai. They will charge a small percentage, but they will make it easier for you.
