Hi Guys,
I've been in Chennai on and off for a couple of months and the bad news is the nightlife is probably the worst in the world bar nowhere.  However, there seem to be some expat meet-ups that get organised.  Another group called Internations just organised a drinks party for expat a week or so ago, and apparently these are quite regular.  From a sports side, I've met a nice Aussie who runs a Scuba Diving and Surfing outfit in Pondycherry which is circa 3 hours drive south of Chennai.  Otherwise, at the weekend go to Ideal Beach Resort in Mamalapuram which is south of the city on the East Coast Road.  They have an º£½ÇÂÒÂ×s day rate of INR600 to use the hotels facilities and it nice to chill on the beach and play volley ball etc....
