Credit Card for expats.

Teechah

Hello. I've seen previous posts about this but none are up to date.

I would like to know if it is possible or has anyone successfully applied for a credit card in Malaysia as an expat?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. I’m an expat from Ireland have a credit card. Greatly depends on your salary and how long remaining on your EP.

Would recommend HSBC

Once one gets local bank account, and opens saving deposit, for the amount of deposit bank can issue a credit card with 1 year duration (extended every year).

My practice on getting credit card is thru Maybank.

You are allowed max of two, Maybank and Citibank are easy to get on an EP as a foreigner, and Maybank you can have an Amex and Mastercard on the same credit line.

No need to have deposits with the bank.

RHB insisted on an agreement with my old employer so I didn't bother.

Limits of 15-20,000 USD are normal once you have been a customer for a few years.
