Passport validity 5 months,with valid Employment pass

Hi All,

my Indian passport is expiring in 5 months. I have an employment pass/ e-visa of 1 year.

Can I travel in and out of Malaysia with my existing passport and visa?

If not...Will it work if I get my passport renewed and use my existing visa (which is attached in the old passport) to travel?

Please advise

I've never worked in Malaysia but I did live here for 12 years. Once when we had permanently moved to Indonesia we decided to visit Malaysia. One of my children's passports only had 5 months remaining but the Air Asia staff in Indonesia allowed us through but she did tell us it should be 6 months and said she would contact Malaysian immigration to let them know that she had allowed us to board the flight. When we arrived at KLIA immigration took us aside into their office and repeated the same but told us that they would let it go this time but that it should be 6 months remaining on the passport.

I think we were really lucky, and I would never try that again since you would in most cases be refused boarding on to a plane destined for Malaysia. Absolutely get a new passport and as mentioned above keep the old one together with the new one.
