Job offer kl

Kiwi kl

Hi I have been approached to head up a large Multi National  in Malaysia. I'm currently a senior exec in a large Australian business. I'm really interested to know if anyone could  share any info regarding relocation packages etc? I have read numerous blog sites but have not really seen any comparable situations to ours re relocation specifically what a large multinational co may contribute towards eg accom, schooling, (. 3 children) and if any assistance is available regarding finding my husband work. He owns his own business in Australia and seeks advise regarding starting his own business in KL? It seems to be very difficult.
Anyone who could share their experiences would be appreciated. It's early days regarding a potential move and hope to get a better understanding as soon as possible.

He need to come here & deal with it.
To relocate here by according advice from Ex-Pat's really not the way I personally recommend.
It could be a costly mistake without dealing personally.
I am not a negative person but many instances people have made mistakes (costly mistakes)
I am from Melbourne & been here long time.
Since you do not mention what business & what Large Multi National then hard to gave any type of advise.
Personally I would not trust the advices.

Good Luck

Hi thanks
I'm part of probably Australia's  largest retail group in a senior role running a $400m business for them.
A bigger Asian company has approached me. This new opportunity would be a significantly bigger job than my current role.
What's important is family and education work life balance which we just don't have in Australia.
We would hope to get ahead rather than pouring ever cent into housing and education as we do in Sydney.
Q. What would be a great income in kl?
Collectively we earn in excess of $350k AUD currently.
Is staying in kl recommended mid term 5-10 years? Does anyone have experiences staying that long?
If my husband did get his business rolling in malaysia then 2-3 years is not worth the effort for little reward as
Time would be better spent growing his Australia business.
Of course a lot of thought and research would be required regarding his situation. He is very open minded at this early stage.
I travel 2.5 hours a day in Sydney traffic so any improvement  on that is appealing.
Are there any expat Aussie or kiwi mums with experience heading up a large business in Malaysia and experiences to share re family and work.?
I have found some useful discussions in the last 24 hours but most do not apply to our situation.

Hi well what a lot of questions ;)

The day of big expat packages ended (sadly) but as a senior management job you should getaccom, car, all school fees paid and a salary similar to before. The hardship allowances days are over but convert to RM and expect same.

Bear in mind local CEOs earn a lot more "tax free" not in salary.....

Biggest problem is will you be white performing puppet? Or in charge. Be careful of that.....

Traffic in KL is hell!

Business ops good for foreigners though as laws lax.

Kiwi kl

Hi thank you
Re "CEO earn a lot more tax free"  could you  explain that? Tax free!! Like the sound of that.
Thanks again I really appreciate it.
I'm trying to track down any expats who may have launched a business in kl so I can introduce them to my husband for a chat.

Hi again I mis understood re local CEO. obviously I am not local.......get it now!

Dear Kiwi KL;

I think what Nemodot trying to say that be wary of becoming a puppet CEO ! Normally the Asian business will have a Chairman or President above the CEO who is calling the shot all the times ! I have a friend from Melbourne (classmates) taking up MD/CEO in a Malaysian company... end up report to Chairman who call the shot ! He left the company recently !

Anyway I am not working in Malaysia !

Kiwi kl

Thanks you very helpful.
