Salary currency in Maldives

Hello everyone.
I have just received an offer letter to work in Maldives and the currency of my salary is written in MVR (converted into USD as indicated in the letter)
Should i ask my employer if i could have my salary in USD instead of MVR?
It will be my first job ever cause i am just a newly grad.

Hi ACMish,

If your job is in a resort you can ask your full salary in US$.
If your job is聽 else where聽 perhaps you can ask half $ and half MVR. It's quite common.
If you end up buying $ you will loose lots on exchange rate.

Though official rate is MVR 15.42 to a $ if you had to buy in the market it will be 17.00 or even more today.
