I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the numbers reported, though I doubt anyone can report exacting numbers at this point.

Thanks for the link, I was looking for it.

Interesting fact is that the death rate in Hubei province where Wuhan is is running at 3%.

mugtech

Death rate in The Philippines is 50%, 2 cases, 1 death.  Supposedly Chinese who traveled to Manila a week ago.  A Cruise Critic passenger on the 2/24/20 Royal Caribbean cruise which includes Manila and Subic said Duterte just announced no cruise ships will be stopping in the Philippines.   The revised port dates are 2/27 and 2/28, and RC will not be allowing anyone to board the ship in Singapore if they have been in China or Hong Kong the previous 14 days, even if only to change planes, never leaving the airport, never going through customs or immigration.  Should be interesting to see how this all shakes out.  Originally the cruise was to leave from Hong Kong, but when they switched it to Singapore they had to eliminate the stop in Ilocos Sur.

Most often, spread from person-to-person happens among close contacts (about 6 feet). Person-to-person spread is thought to occur mainly via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to how influenza and other respiratory pathogens spread. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. It’s currently unclear if a person can get 2019-nCoV by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes.

pnwcyclist

Great links, thanks. Mugtech I don't think I'd personally want to be on a cruise ship at this time. Every once in a while you hear about outbreaks on cruise ships that are exacerbated due to the close quarters and contamination of HVAC or other systems. If this virus did get on there it could be troublesome if not worse due to limited hospital.

Everything on one page

It seems to be under control.

Our plan is to increase our food supplies a bit for now. This is a good idea in general.

If I see cases popping up in Philippines, then I will immediately head to the stores to top off our supplies to the 2-3 month level. Then we will sit tight and avoid public contact as much as possible while I assess the direction of the spread.

Goal is to avoid crowds and empty shelves/missing items when the herd finally senses a threat.

Thanks PD

My "feet are getting cold" after all that exercise!

Best to heed this advice!!!!

Thanks &
Have a good one

I have just arrived back from Aust and brought with me 500 face mask's just in case.  yep and agree with the stock pilling of food and water, as we have seen in China, cities can be isolated if the virus becomes common in that city.

No recorded cases in Mindanao.  So far so good.

Davao and other cities have discouraged large gathering's  and have cancelled some public events.

Fred

Loads of red but, excluding China, very few cases making the areas red.
Let's all panic.

Hind site is a wonderful thing, when people react, prepare and prevent.  Lucky the world reacted and closed off China flights, but some might have called that panic.

GuestPoster285

The media makes money off of panic. They want you glued to the latest hype...watching their adds.

But prudent preparedness is wise.

The herd is guided by media and they stampede on cue.

It's a good thing to be ahead of the herd.

And as for those miracle vaccines the media is rumbling about...I think I've got better odds with the bugs.

Royal Caribbean cancelled the 2/24/20 cruise on 2/10/20, full refund credited to my credit card on 2/14/20 USA, 2/15 here.  2/15/20 cruise cancelled out of Singapore same day, NCL cancelled last minute a 2/17/20 cruise out of Singapore and then a 2/27/20 20 day cruise from Singapore to Dubai
The Royal Caribbean Spectrum, scheduled to sail out of Shanghai, cancelled all Asian cruises and is headed to Australia to give cruises to fire fighters and other first responders.  NCL Spirit was scheduled 4/15/20 to 11/2/20 out of Japan making stops in China and South Korea, but instead is headed to Athens, Greece for the summer.  Hong Kong and Singapore are losing a lot of money over the lack of tourism, Disney World in Hong Kong was closed the entire Lunar New Year extended holiday, and Cathay Pacific, the only Chinese airline I will fly, has cut 80% of their domestic flights and 30% of their international flights.  They are asking thousands of employees to take a 60 day unpaid leave of absence.  Can anyone imagine a USA company making such a request, or if they did, the response they would get?

Meanwhile we fight the Novel Coronavirus as best we can.  All the extra face masks have gone south weeks ago for the Taal volcano calamity, but I have stopped reading novels while the locals assure me there is no Corona beer anywhere in Ilocos Sur.

Grocery prices are all on the 'uptrend' here in Surigao City! ...all giving excuses as if their supply chain has been affected...even the guy selling our regular stock of bananas fm his farm 2km away is talking abt his  affected supply chain.. (?????) haizzz..all are getting into the game!!!

pnwcyclist

The key is to be prepared and avoid unnecessary contact if it gets worse. I have stocked food, extra drinking water and some masks early on for special situations. We are also cutting back on unnecessary dining out, gatherings, etc. We can be pretty self-contained if nec. - if the kids weren't in school - and I will pull them out if I feel it is prudent.

We tried panicking last week, didn't help so we went out to dinner and a movie.

If the Coronavirus gets loose in the slums of the Philippines watch out. Good luck on isolation let alone quality medical care on a vast scale.  With a 2% death rate under Chinese medical standards, I would expect that numbers to rise. With the pay as you receive medical treatment and millions of the extremely poor... just crunch the numbers.

GuestPoster285

the death rate for cases in Iran is a bit concerning

of 28 confirmed cases 9 have passed away

Lat61

Iran is covering up with those numbers.

If Coronavirus Is Killing Fewer People Than the Flu, Why Has Beijing Quarantined Millions?

Because it only kills fewer because it is not as widespread.

CV has death rate estimated to be 20x flu.

If the Coronavirus outbreak edges closer to a pandemic...non of the 195 countries ready for that possibility!

GuestPoster285

The real question is why are there coronavirus cases popping up the WHO/CDC cannot find any epidemiological link.

Sixteen cases have been reported in four countries for which there are no clearly established epidemiological links.

There are known measures in existence that combats corona virus. It´s an RNA virus so it´s well-studied just like SARS and MERS. Clinicians are even saying that just a routine influenza vaccine tends to diminish the symptoms to 50%. They add that common flu medication like Tamiflu helps in hindering the virus growth.

There are others like protease inhibitors that stops the virus replication. These are found on HIV meds. Another that is effective are anti-malarial drugs - Chloroquine.

One experimental drug that that was given to a Washington man is Remdesivir from Gilead Sciences. Need a special permission from FDA. The man recovered. Vaccines from Gilead should have the trials within 3 mos. Here is a good reading on the medications:

The system can quickly become overburdened. More-so when doctors and nurses start dropping dead, like they have in China. And China has a highly capable medical establishment. What happens in a less capable nation?

That´s why relying on govt in situations like this is doubtful to someone´s existence. If you know it might come, have your flu vaccination updated and stock-up on Tamiflu at least. If you can obtain Chloroquine or an HIV med, the better. If you stock-up food you should also include meds from aspirin
to the ones I mentioned. You don´t want to go out and see if doctors and nurses turn to stiff! :D

Just hopping that this site does not become FB.

I personally would enjoy it if people only posted thing's that are of relevance or may be of relevance to the country that we are posting on.  i.e.  Philippines

I don't care if people post their experiences or idea's.  But to debate another person's post, or comment, simply makes this site like FB.    (LOL i am sure that someone will debate me on this :( )

The Corona virus is relevant to the whole world. I lived there once and Philippine health budget is insufficient to tackle this type of epidemic. Drugs mentioned should be available except the experimental drug. Vaccination is also available.

Your profile doesn´t reflect you´re living in the Philippines...

So when someone has a different perspective they should not say so?

You call it debating, but this is how the full picture is developed.

No single person has the whole answer.

Govt measures are principally quarantine, preventing transport of possibly infected people from abroad, temperature and symptom monitoring on-site and of course vaccination.

It´s your own outlook to prepare yourself for the situation.

China, US, Japan screening was missing infected persons.

Like the dozen or so people that CDC had to track down because they were false negative and there are other cases.

Yep hit the nail on the head, just accept other peoples experience, even it you disagree, as they are posting there experience, it may not be yours.  Feel free to post your experience but don't debate other people's experiences or views.

Feel free to debate them some where else.  Send them a private message and then debate them there.  Other readers have no interest in personal debates with another person, as what happens is the debate goes on and on, like a battle of personalities as to who is correct and who is wrong.

People that are looking for relevant information come and look at this site and simply give up on reading posts on this site where debate's go on, as they get tired of reading personal debate's, it makes it hard for them to find relevant information and experiences.

On site the members have a good relationship with each other, as we accept that we all have different views and experiences.  Where as FB is full of people who just debate each other.

Have i bridged my own rules here, yep i have, i apologies for that, and will not comment on this again.

I know that you are knew here,  but what you will find is that, as happened recently on another post, is that the admin simply close the Post.

Feel free to report my comment here to admin if you wish, you may find that they just close this post.

I´ve seen very stupid and offensive comments in this forum. You cannot just keep quiet, swallow it and go on. You can´t avoid these circumstances as people were raised differently, behave differently and with levels of intelligence and information different from yours. It´s your duty to modify that by means of a constructive debate. That´s why ANY social media will always be vulnerable because of the differences in opinion.

It does however supply needed stimulation for reason and analysis. It´s never easy dealing with human features and that´s why if you have thin skin you should stay out of social media.

But there are friendly debates so I´m hoping that everybody will stick to that.
