As I have said in previous posts, at least when in the Philippines, assume everything is a scam. Occasionally you will be proved wrong in which case it will be your hubris that takes a hit instead of your wallet. As the actress said to the Bishop - 'sometimes it's nice to be proved wrong'  ;)

Can you enlighten us what made you opine they are fiction?

Older thread but I wanted to alert expats about a scam that got me for P399 today. The delivery guy showed up at the gate with two packages, one was COD. We seldom have COD deliveries these days but I thought maybe my wife had ordered something so I paid the P399 COD fee. Inside the envelope was an open box of Kinoki medicated foot pads which sells for P24 on Lazada. On the sender line it only says "Shop Pinas" and the address is Metro Manila, Quezon City. It looks like these guys somehow got my wife's name and address and sent us something hoping we would take the bait, which I did. Is anyone familiar with this sort of scam?

Thanks for the heads up Moon Dog...I have never experienced anything like what you mentioned but it's worth keeping this in mind as I do have many Shopee orders on COD's & Normally I always prepare each and every items exact COD amount prior to any home delivery & everyone at home is kept aware.

My advice for anyone who purchases online, this is what I do.

I order everything C.O.D., (90% of my purchases are on Shopee, 9% on Metromart, 1% on other) I always prepare the payment in advance, I also write the payment amount of the payment on the top of the top Peso.

On the special instructions area at the website I write: Please call or text when at location for delivery.

I follow the tracking, when it's close to delivery date I let everyone know, and where the payment is.

If you're not tracking or tracking not available, do not accept any deliveries.

Snap! Consider yourself lucky Moon Dog. I got scammed earlier in the week for PHP 1,600. I get many of my business and casual shirts from a London shirt maker Charles Tyrwhitt.

I clicked on a Facebook ad offering some of their shirts for ‘ clearance’  £17. The scam website was identical to the legit CT website. Thought the £8 delivery charge was high but hey ho. After 5 days no order confirmation came through.

American Express my credit card supplier have reimbursed me. Dealt with a charming Filipina as they use Manila as their call centre.

Ironically I ended up ordering the same shirt PLUS another shirt from the genuine web site at £29 each - in the sale. The shirt designs were subtle colours and without the dummy website I would never have known as these sale shirts were hidden on the genuine website! Lol

Hello all.

I have not been scammed (yet) but anyone in the house orders anything on line C.O.D., the money is put in an envelope with the amount shown, no match, no acceptance. Also stops deliveries with "no change" as exact money tended.

P399 was a realitively cheap lesson on accepting any COD. I've been prepaying with Gcash so COD deleveries are rare. My question is, where did this scammer get my delivery information? We use my wife's name on the Lazada account since there are no house numbers the family name is helpful finding our house. The address on the package was exactly the way we entered it in Lazada so could there be a leak or an employee doing a side hussle?

Another possibility comes to mind. My wife was scammed a while back on a watch deal. A woman called claiming she was a Shopee representitive and since my wife was such a good customer she was offering a one time deal on a watch. It was a P9,000 watch for P1,000, but turned out to be a P500 watch. I know I have seen some items on Shopee and Lazada that are way overpriced and that is were this sort of scam comes into play. The woman directed my wife to a Shopee ad where the watch was sure enough being offered for P9.000. So they post an ad at a high price then call a prespective sucker and show them the ad as "proof" it is a great deal. Question is, how did they get my wife's phone number and how did they know she had a Shopee account?

Many now have Shopee accounts. My housekeeper and most of my employees have accounts whether under their name or their spouse's name. So, whoever scammed you and your wife probably assumed either you or she has a Shopee account.

As Enzyte Bob advised, it would be best to track your order. If what's being delivered at your front door does not appear on Shopee's tracking system, then most likely it's not your package.

My guess as to who scammed you is someone who has handled your packages in the past. They could have made a fake Shopee shipping label (perhaps copying it from shipping labels from previous orders), and attached it to a box. They delivered it to your place and asked you to pay for it, hoping that you don't track your package, and that you will not verify the order with your wife or that you are expecting a delivery and think that this is it.

But you're not alone when it comes to not tracking orders from Shopee. Most of the time, I don't track my orders especially small orders, even though I know I should. So, thank you. Your post and Enzyte's reminded me to be more diligent in tracking online orders.

Moon Dog

@FilAmericanMom Thanks but one thing I need to make clearer, it wasn't a Shopee or Lazada shipping label. The sender was "Shop Pinas".
