We got scammed on Shoppee

Jackson4

My wife had our property manager in the Philippines order bunk beds for our student rental units on Shoppee. I do not know how it happened but the vendor in Shoppee sent a message on Shoppee site to DM-Direct Message the vendor. Long story short, my wife was communicating with the vendor directly on Messenger. Talk about BRF-Big Red Flag, right? At the end of the day, the vendor managed to convince my wife to direct deposit PHP 14k to someone's local bank account, and that is outside Shoppee site. And that is without an invoice, only Messenger texts. Duh! I talked to the vendor on Messenger demanding return of the money. He said not possible and asking 27% for delivery and taxes and that shipment is on its way. I countered how is delivery on its way when it is not paid in full. The vendor speaks with South Asian accent punctuated with few Filipino words. I can't really give my wife a hard time not seeing BRF but at least she now knows where/how it went wrong. Does anyone know/experience scam on Shoppee? (Everyone's using acronyms these days. LOL!)

Jackson4 asked . . . . Does anyone know/experience scam on Shoppee?

****

How it happened is:  The seller on Shopee sent a message to your wife asking to communicate off site.

(1) That's a big mistake to communicate & consummate a deal outside the Shopee platform.

(2)  A big red flag to direct deposit to a stranger.
