PR application - taking vacation in the middle of job switch

ajosshi

Hello fellow Singapore expats,

I have pending PR application and also have accepted job offer from another company.

New EP IPA is already in hand and I'm planning to take a short 1 week break in between job abroad, but I wonder if that will negatively impact my PR application since technically I wouldn't have legal status in Singapore during the job transition.

Is there anybody who has similar experience?

Appreciate your reply. Thanks!

Hello @ajosshi, I personally don't think it will affect your PR application at all. My understanding is that PR application is based on myriad factors consideration. Check out this article: That said, if you are worried about it, why don't you contact MOM about it?

The moment your EP is cancelled then PR application will be rejected because you applied your PR based on your EP. Once EP is canceled then your application will not be considered.

You may reach out ICA if you have any further questions.

@surya2k based on your statement, the logical consequence is that EP holders cannot change job as they need to cancel their old EP before new one can be issued, and they will stay with STVP in-between job transition. We know that is not true and changing job is allowed when you have PR application pending. There is section in ePR where we can inform ICA of our job change.

surya2k

Your assumption is not correct. Why someone would cancel his/her EP and stay under STVP?

The best way a foreign employee can change a job is apply job -> Got selected -> new employer apply your EP -> existing EP remains active -> new EP approved -> put your paper -> Existing employer will cancel your EP -> Serve your notice period -> Joined new company-> you will receive new EP card

Your PR application is still valid, send your update to ICA including your new role details, offer letter for your PR consideration.

ajosshi

@surya2k EP is only cancelled by old employer at the last day of employment, after serving notice period. Most of people doesn't work immediately the next day after the last day of previous company employment.

Typically last day is on Friday, and people will start new work on Monday. On Friday, old EP is cancelled by old employer, and new EP issuance request will only be triggered on Monday, during first day of work. During this short period, e.g., Saturday and Sunday, STVP is issued.

EP is cancelled here, but I'm fairly certain that PR application is not automatically rejected in the case above. But of course going abroad in between EP maybe different case.

@ajosshi So what really is your query. What Surya explained above is accurate. In between two jobs, from the day your EP is canceled till the time your new EP is issued, you are on STVP. PR doesn’t get rejected, you will however need to update ICA on your new gig.

ajosshi

Query is, does PR gets automatically rejected if we go abroad in between job switch (IPA is already in hand for next gig) ?

Shekhz

No, it doesn’t. If you are taking time off in between jobs, it doesn’t impact the PR application.

also, ensure you update ICA when you start your new job about the relevant changes.
