Retiring in Chiang Mai

Tinabella

I have always been intrigued by the Asian culture and I am considering moving to Chiang Mai.  I would love to live in an area where there's an expat community and of possible near ancient ruin or temples.
I would appreciate any guidance and advice anyone could offer to make my transition as smooth as possible and make a friend or two along the way!

You might start with a web site called Chiang Mai º£½ÇÂÒÂ×'s Club, or CEC. You could look up MeetUp and see what kinds of activities there are. You could look up Perfect Homes and look at listings for houses or condo's just to get an idea. You might want to start with a guest house when you get here and then do the real search at that time. Getting a house or condo normally requires a lease of 6 or 12 months. Right now is the low season so you might be able to do some cherry picking.
I live in Chiang Mai and have for almost two years.

I would suggest a nice holiday there to experience the place for yourself. If that's possible for you.

Thanks Bill, that puts me off to a good start! If you don't mind, I'd like to reach out to you from time to time during this process.
Thanks again

Thanks Kel, I will look into the Holiday season and see which one is more suitable.

If you are coming this year then it should be early November. November 2nd and 3rd is the Loi Krathong festival and it is absolutely the most beautiful time of year to visit. The Nimmanhaemin area is loaded with expats as well has the trendiest bars and clubs in town.

Events are a great way to connect with the expat community and there are several events groups on Facebook for the Chiang Mai community.

For the best of events, be sure to check out Thirteen Thirty Seven.

Thanks for the info I really appreciate that.  If everything goes well, I will be there next year.
