Which areas/neighborhoods are pleasant to live in ?

SeanNew

Hi all brothers and sisters:

I am a college professor in the USA. Recently married a Vietnamese girl. We plan on settling in VN. Looking to find areas where weather is not too hot, not too cold. Currently, looking into Bao Loc area. Which areas/neighborhoods are pleasant to live in, both in terms of weather and nice neighborhood? We both like nature and calm peaceful environment, but not remote. Any well-thought advice will be highly appreciated.

Love to all.

Sean,

There are two seasons here in Viet Nam.

  1. Rainy
  2. Hot.

Best of everything to you and yours.

DaLot is often refered to as "the land of eternal spring." there is a large expat community and if you stat near the city center you will find all the usual amminities readily aviable.

Ninh Thuận Province, particularly around Phan Rang–Tháp Chàm (about 100 km south of Nha Trang), is often cited as Vietnam’s driest area. It receives as little as 700–800 mm of rainfall annually, significantly less than the national average

We just came to Nha Trang 2 weeks ago and we truly love it... the city isn't too big but not too small either (about 300K inhabitants) but it has an international Airport, countless hotels and restaurants, and a 7 kms long beach.

There are at least 4 shopping centers and a Lotte Cinema, many IT shops and webdesigners .

WIFI is very good at Sochi hotel and all the restaurants we tried until now.

It seems you can get optic fiber or 5G for your internet if you rent long term.

Food is great and people always friendly and helpful.

To be sure after this (our 5th visit to the country) we are still hesitating between Vung Tau and Nha Trang.

Good luck in your resettlement.

I am in the market for a cooler climate. Dalat was quit nice, from what I have seen housing is a little higher and not as many choices due to its size but I have a loose plan to spend time in Nha Trang again and the either rent a place there or go to da lat. when I did a comparison, Nha Trang is cooler     than say Saigon but for about two months of the year it is actually hotter, then goes down.

due to family ties, we want to not go north too far from hcmc.

any other options within 6 or 8 hrs from

As an experienced traveler, my advice is that you can find the Vung Tau area, which is close to the sea and close to the center of Ho Chi Minh City. If you want to learn more, you can contact me Whatapp ***

how important is it to you that you are near the coast and also near commonly desired Western type amenities?

if you don't mind giving up the ocean and also the expat bubbles, there are lots of other options.

but it's not really worth the time to mention all of them if you would be feeling hooked to the classic Western lifestyle here

Tousunds 'n tousunds, pert near 500 even!

Danny, I think anywhere in the highlands would be nice as far as weather/temps go. That, and there's no flooding.

I spent a few weeks a couple of years back in and around Dak Nong province. It was always refreshingly cool in the mornings and evenings. Chilly, almost.

Also, Bao Loc city in Lam Dong province was very nice. I attended a couple of orchid festivals/competitions there, and the weather was always nice. Again, never flooding.

Off topic, but I took this shot of a friend of my GF in Bao Loc at one of the showings, with a Sony DSLR camera, telephoto lens.

(ever take a picture and as soon as the shutter closes you know you've got a keeper?)

We like VT so much that we are going back there for a fifth time in September.

Real estate wise in VT you can contact Ms Le Thu on WhatsApp she was very helpful when we were looking for rentals there (in the 6 to 12 millions dongs monthly rate range)

IT depends on regions of Vietnam, North VN there are 4 seasions cleadly. Central Vietnam is likely 2.5 seasons. South Vietnam is 2 seasons.

The best places for your needs are either Cam Ranh or Nha Trang, both seaside and about a two-hour drive from Dalat. If you prefer Bao Loc, I recommend staying in urban areas of Dalat City instead, as transportation, food, entertainment, and healthcare are significantly better there.

Dannyroc3

@OceanBeach92107 the ocean area is not important, but having more variety in food is.

i am not interested in expat communities just the food that results from them :)

at the end of the month I will Renee visa and go to Nha Trang for a week or so to look around a bit more closer this time. From there I might explore Dalat again. danang is a bit farther north on the coast but I suppose it is similar to Nha Trang?

Dannyroc3

@rogergarinmichaud

I was there not long ago, the second time. I like the area enough but I imagine it is as hot as Saigon, with a nice breeze.

I know it was hot both times I was there.

Dannyroc3

I feel like I hijacked the post, if thats poor manners, let me know.

I hope to find a larger city such as the two options I mentioned.

the city I am in lacks a larger shopping place for groceries and it’s become a little monotonous. I should say the people in this area are wonderful.

with a larger place might come more food options.

bien hoa is a interesting place however it is slightly more hot there.

I feel like I lose too many hours in the day from the heat.

I like to travel so I might go check out any suggestions which sound good.
