Leaving a piece of cinnamon will attract the ants. It's a trick often used in Mediterranean countries. Best of luck!

Killing ants is easy - any bug murdering can will do nicely.

Killing the nests can be hard work. I used to kill them by pouring slightly soapy water down the holes, but that only works on the ground floor, and only until a new colony starts up.

Ants dislike some strong smells. Try making a spray with spearmint or peppermint oil. Irish Spring and coast deodorant soap grated like cheese and spread in their tracks is also supposed to work  And I’ve heard that chili peppers work too. Try one of these and if it doesn’t work try another. Banana smashed up with Boric Acid might be another option.

Your ideas are better than the cinnamon. In fact the cinnamon should be the best one, but the Vietnamese cinnamon is a bit bitter

I will try the banana. I had some pancake syrup and thought they would like that but they showed little interest.

In the US, I found ants don't like baby powder but they will just avoid it and take another course. The boric acid w/ sugar takes a few days for them to carry it home and die but after trying a number of dedicated products, that seemed to really work because the spray just kills the ones you see and will repell new ones for a short time.

The boric acid worked so good I placed it around the outside as well.

I had an ant problem when I was living up in Thai Nguyen.

What did an excellent job for me was using a chalk-like stick, called "". Lasts about 2 months per application.

You trace a line where the ants enter an area. I traced around all the doors and windows, and also any suspect plumbing entry/exit points and electrical outlets.

It worked very, very well. The locals swear by it.

Soapy water reminds me of my Grandmother, who told me to pour boiling water on the hole or nest.  She was probably

dealing with fire ant nests.

You might also try the product Aidan mentioned, recommend by the locals. The locals would know what works best for any given pest in their area.

As you have already stated, what worked back home, may not work as well here.

I recently discovered this product and it cleared the ants in my apartment within a couple of hours and they haven't returned since (2 months).

The sugar and boric acid works best if the sugar is the confectionary kind.  The crystals are about the same size and the ants carry both back to their nest.  Not recommended if kids or pets are around since boric acid is also a poison to us.

Ant poison worked really well for me. Search on Lazarda for 'Diệt Kiến KINCHO - Nội địa Nhật Bản'. Think it might be a Korean brand. Killed a few nests with those in different rooms and the problem did not return.

Hi mate we have a problem with little black ones in our house in Nha Trang. They bite and leave an itchy welt.  I tgot a mate to bring (ant rid) from Australia it keeps them away but not permanantly. They are a pain in the arse. You can see their movement on the wall and I put a bit in their way its like honey. Its suppose to poisen them and the others in the nest. Good luck.

Maybe the powdered sugar would make a difference. I have tried mixing the Boric Acid in a number of things and there doesn't seem to be more than mild interest by the ants. Before I left for the weekend, I made two more attempts by mixing it with Jelly and peanut butter. Today I noticed a reduction in ants with some still present. Not the knockout blow it usually has. I will probably try the purchased products mentioned and see if that is effective.

maximum deep cleaning to totally eradicate the old tracks that the previous ants have laid down, and then the use of cinnamon and cinnamon oil is a much more desirable non-toxic solution, in my humble opinion and based upon my experience
