What happens to my house when my wife dies

Rene 1956

I am married to a Vietnamese woman. We have a house in the Mekong Delta which is in my wife's name. But what happens to the house when she dies?: can I continue to live here? And can I put it in my name? Do I have to sell it? How much time do I have for this? Now that she is still alive, is there anything I should do now to prevent problems after her death? There are no children in my wife's family book. and apart from my wife and I, no other people live with us. My wife does have 2 children from a previous marriage. I hope someone can help me with this

Hi there. This is a topic which had been discussed on the forum a couple of years ago.

It is a subject of concern for many expats residing in Vietnam. See, here.

It's better to use Google translate to express your words.  I was trying very hard to understand but just couldn't.

I don't know enough about Vietnamese laws to give any advice but from an outsider perspective I would say "sell the bloody house right now !"

You can always réinvest the money in a land where no one can kick you out of the house you paid for !
