Marrying in Vietnam

Bonesy

Hello guys,

Long time no post, currently in the UK with my girlfriend showing her my roots but will be heading back to Vietnam next Friday.

A thought struck me today about marriage in Vietnam. I am aware that foreigners need to provide a legalized document to prove that they are not already married.

In my situation, would I need to obtain this from the UK or can I get it from the embassy in Vietnam?

Any other information or experience on the process would be a great help.

Thanks,
Michael

Dude, you are just zipping right along, aren't you???  :top:  For us Americans, the one at the embassy is much cheaper and faster to obtain.  But, you might want to check with the So Tu Phap, where your Chosen One is registered, to see if they would accept it.  The ones in the back woods, because of ignorance, tend to give you fits.

Better you should fetch from the UK.

Bonesy,

Then, you better check to see if your embassy would do the same for you.

There is a lot of hoops to jump through.  Everything from proving you are not already married to being seen by a doctor to prove you are sane.  Cheaper and less stress to marry her in the UK. Then have wedding party here and register marriage.  Or just have wedding party if that will make her happy.  Now is also a good time to run....

Ancientpathos has a good point. Why bother with the stuff you need to go through here. Don't forget, if she's from a certain town like Ca Mau or some others down here, they expect extra cash from foreigners to approve this. They see a lot of these marriages as scams so they'll take what they can get. Plus, you'll wait an extra long time if they're holding out for more cash.

While you're both there, just go down to town hall and do it there. It'll be legally recognized here and you wouldn't have to put up with all this legal jumbo. Then have your party or whatever here. Dude, leave the reverse engineering to the Chinese.

Congrats!
