Interested in Vietnam.- How easy if the immigration system?

kiwiinkorea

Hi there, I am a New Zealander working as an English Teacher in Thailand. I have been here more than a year, prior to that I  taught in South Korea for 3 years as well as in New Zealand  teaching academic English. I hold a BA plus a language teaching qualification, grammatical certificates etc. I understand the demand for qualified native speakers is high, what I really want to know is how easy is the immigration system?

Here in Thailand it's a nightmare.

Much easier than Thailand.

With a degree you can apply for positions at universities where they pay is much better (but not as good as the American female who wants to charge $30/hour tutoring!).

University of Ho Chi Minh has a well supported English section. Come here on a tourist visa, find a job, then have them help with a work permit.

Assuming all that is good, am married and want to bring my wife, whats the situation with that? Is it easy to get a spousal type visa for her?

Assuming I enter on a tourist visa. Is this using the visa on arrival or do i need to get a special tourist visa with the Vietnamese embassy?

VungTauDon

Visa on arrival is the same as what you would get at embassy

Come with a visa on arrival. Later you can extend or replace with Work Permit and Temporary Residence Card if you get a good chance. When you get a WP and TRC they will allow you to bring your wife and can apply for her TRC. Until then she can stay with you in a tourist visa  :)

You might want to consider getting a B1 business visa. It is good for 90 days and can be renewed. At one time you could renew 3 times then you needed to make a border run. The last I knew the HCM office was only allowing two extensions. Still you could stay for nine months.

Can I get this visa at the Vietnamese Embassy here in Thailand prior to arriving in Vietnam, or do I need to come in on the VOA and then change it afterwards? Personally would prefer something I could get that would last longer than a 3 month renewal. Getting a resident visa I assume has to sponsored by my employer?

I got mine through one of the online agencies that processes VOA's. It takes one or two days. You don't need to have a business here to get one either. Just ask the agency to get you a B1 business visa .
I personally don't know of any VN visa's that are valid for more than 90 days. Maybe other members do.
