New rules on extension of visa

Yinnster

I came in march from UK on a 3 months multiplevtourist entry. When that ran out i got a 3 month extension for single entry tourist. That is due to run out in 3 weeks. I've been told you can extend it 2 times but a visa company told me I can't and would have to get a business visa . Can anyone shed any light on the latest rules. If I can't extend it what are my best options, preferably without leaving the country

just out of curiosity what is the cost to extend a 3 month single entry visa by 3 months via a third party travel agent ?

Yinnster

I paid 295 us dollars and the agent did everything

Guestposter822

for 3 months ? that’s a rip off. You can go to Moc Bai on the bus and be back at lunchtime for about $60 all up.

Was that for an extension of your tourist visa or for the business visa?

Yeah, it was an extension for another 3 months tourist single entry. I just handed my passport over and got it back in 7 days. No paperwork to fill out. I have deep vein thrombosis and if I sit on a plane or a bus for more than couple of hours my legs swell up so I know it was alot to pay but in my situation I was happy to pay it to avoid any traveling. Now she has told me I have to get a business visa as my tourist can not be extended for a second time but alot of people say it can. I lived in Thailand 7 years. I wish I never had to hear the word visa again. I find it the most stressful thing I have to deal with whilst living in paradise. It seems whatever visa you get every 90 days you have to to report to immigration or leave the country.

Yes I remember about 5 years ago in Vietnam I used to pay $50 AUD and could extend about 3 or 4 times before I had to leave and come back. I don't understand why they have made it more difficult as tourist dollars are good for the economy.

Canman63

I paid $100 for a 30 day extension, single entry. Had it back in 3 days.

It's all about the money.

Many rich immigration officers from the current system.

These days you have to go through an agent so kickbacks can be paid.

I just got a Quora answer on visa extensions. Is the following real?

Since Aug. 2016, American can have 1-year multiple entries visa to Vietnam with $135 processing fee. There is no difference in validity of Visa between applying at Embassy and Vietnam Visa on arrival! www-vietnam-visaonline-org

They must be talking about the 1 year category DN business visa.

I received my new visa (not a renewal) on August 31st.

The Embassy is the safest, best option.

$135 USD is the current stamping fee at the airport, so no, it's not "real".

Even the Embassy or Consulate charges you a fee (THIGV checked on it recently) which is in addition to the stamping fee.

Agents charge whatever the market will bear.

My agent currently charges $190 USD, so I spent $325 USD total on my new visa

Thanks for the up to date info ocean!

Thanks, OB. I appreciate the information.

WAY back in 2012, arrived in Sai Gon in the early morning from Bangkok on 5th Jan.  My then girlfriend was waiting outside at TSN for me. Took a taxi and inspected a couple of very nice, new apartments out in D7.  Chose the one we both like the most - contacted the owner up in Ha Noi. Paid her for 6 months in advance by PayPal and got a great discount and deal. All done by 10:30pm that day.
Three months later, my tourist visa ran out - my by then fiancee took my passport to a travel agent in DI - Had it back with a 3 month extension by 8:30am the next morning.
We did a fair bit of traveling around VN and several other countries. Had my visa renewed once more - again cost was US $39 for another three months.
After that had to leave the country - went with a VN tour company to see Angkor Wat for a couple of days then a day in Phnon Penh, where all the Vietnamese spent all day and night in a casino having a great time.
Returned to VN - by which time someone in either Ben Tri or Sai Gon had finally worked out that 'MY BETTER HALF' and I had been married in a Buddhist temple up in north western Thailand months earlier.  It appears if you do that, you are required to have a representative of the VN government there at the time to 'witness' everything.
Finally had everything straightened out (pays to have a friend high up in the VN government - - now no more visas required - have a 20 year 'residency permit' - which also works wonders in several other South East Asian countries.  :-)

Thats the first time I have heard of a twenty year residency card. Sounds strange considering a passport only lasts 10 years. Can you fill us in on this permit.

What does this permit look like. Can't find any info on the internet about a 20 year permit.
