Sponsor company ghosting me

IamCharlie

Not sure if anyone here can assist me. My sponsor company has ghosted me, no visa yet so he promised to refund me. And now he's not answering my calls, or responding to messages. I have his ID documents and company documents. Can anything be done? I am in SA and my family is in Vietnam. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What "company"?

Was this a real job or were you buying your way into the country with a phony work permit?

SimCityAT

If you paid money, it could well be a scam there are a lot around, that's why possibly they are not answering your calls or messages.

What was the job?

I see by a previous post that you aren't qualified for much without a degree (were you working on a tourist visa before?)

I used a company that hired international staff, but it was a visa to enter the country at the time yes. I have a family and I was desperate and regretted it now. However, they have assisted others getting into Vietnam and I have spoken to them, so has my fiance in Vietnam. He sent me all his company documents to prove he's not fake or a scammer. But for some reason, he has agreed to refund me, and he has always been in contact with me. I am assuming he doesn't have the money and he's now not answering my phone calls, etc.

This company's industry is exports and imports

In 2018 I worked on a business visa in Vietnam, not a tourist visa.

Doesn't sound good dude.  Sorry to hear it.

rossihere241

If you were in South Africa go to a travel agency that handles visas. Provide paperwork to them as needed to get any kind of Visa to get into the country. You're not going to get anywhere trying to contact the company that originally said they were helping you. You now have to help yourself.... It's not difficult getting a Visa into Vietnam. Google in your phone getting a Visa to get into Vietnam and figure out what the covid restrictions are. You can do it

@rossihere241
"It's not difficult getting a Visa into Vietnam."

Helps if you know the borders are closed to tourists until March 15th and no tourist visas.

You mention family? Are you married to a local? I'd you are the best option would be to speak to the local VN about a TRC.. as of January 2021 spousal temporary residents card exempts you from a work permit

BUT - there has been no sign of when they are going  start issuing visas and TRCs again, lots of people are waiting despite borders opening soon

A previous post of his gives more background:

I have recently learned that my Vietnamese gf, living in Hanoi is pregnant. I am from South Africa, living in SA right now. I don't want them to come live here, and I would rather go and live over there as the cost of living is cheaper, less crime, etc. If I have a child in Vietnam, what does that mean for me that would like to move there? I don't have a Degree, so work would be difficult. I was teaching english in Vitenam for 3 months in 2018, but I didn't need a Degree for that type of VISA. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Didn't see that 🙄
If he had been married the rest of his needs would have been largely eliminated.

Sadly, even with his company credentials no one, even the police if we're a legitimate entry would do anything

Your best, and only option is to wait for borders/visa situation to change and then come over on a tourist visa. As soon as you land, start making rapid plans to stay. TRC would be the easiest, your "future" wife becomes your sponsor.

No degree is trickier, you could in the meantime get as many recognized teaching qualifications under your belt as possible TEFL/TESOL etc as there is still a shortage of teachers. The problem you're going to have is, your job opportunities will be limited by who you can work for.. I'm not 100% sure but foreigners can legally work for a foreign owned organization as a professional or expert in a given field without a degree.. does teaching count? That's a gray area.

The easiest solution ignore a job requirement is get married, get your TRC and you can stay for three years. But, job hunting here for foreigners is incredibly hard. You could be the best in your field, and a local will have vietnamese knowledge and be cheaper too

The new law that came in states that you now dont need to apply for a work permit if you are legally married to a VN citizen.

"From January 01, 2021, foreigners who marry a Vietnamese citizen and live in the territory of Vietnam will neither be required to apply for a work permit, nor to apply for a Certificate of work permit exemption as old regulated taking effect from February 15, 2021."

Its reported by your employer, for tax reasons, but you dont have to go through the tedious task of getting a WP.

I read that too somewhere... But I'm guessing that's to try and stop people avoiding tax maybe?
