Getting mail in and out of Hanoi

Hello All,
聽聽聽聽聽 I've recently arrived in Hanoi and we have an apartment in Hai Ba Trung District.聽 We don't have a mail box for our apartment.聽 Are there private post office boxes at the PO that can be used for mail here?聽 How do most people receive mail,and is it reliable ie. do letters get 'lost' coming into the country?聽 Also, if I want to mail business letters to the US can I count on them getting there if I mail them from the PO in Hanoi?聽 I don't want to use FedEx for all my mail out of the country!聽 Is there a good PO in Hai Ba Trung?聽 Thanks for your advice on all aspects of mail in Hanoi.

Hi Brit33!

I don't know how to create a mail box for your flat. In Vietnam Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular, every family doesn't often create a mail box for house. We often used the box of PO, so it's raty. If you want to send a mail to international locations you can go to PO in Ha Noi. If you want to send your mail a way so fast to recipients, you can choose EMS, or if you have a time, don't need so fast but need so sure, you can choose Registered Air Mail. Ask postal worker you can understand.
You are a foreigner, can't speak vietnamese. The best, you should got to PO of HN. It's not so far from Hai Ba Trung. There is a International post. They can tell you the ways to send.

Or, there are some International shipping companies, you can be reference. They are professional.

You have your a home adress, It's the flat you are living. when you have a mail of your friend from other country, the delivered mail people will bring your mail go to your flat for you, if not, they will send for you a invitation and you go to PO to take the mail. If you want to send a mail, when you have a visibilite adress for recipient and sender, you can put your mail in mail box of PO or directly bring it for postal worker, It's no problem. Remember, the best, if you have a phone number, you should to write your phone number under your adress. It's easy for PO worker when send mail for you. Normal, if i send a mail for a adress in Vietnam, i put my mail in Box of PO, but if i send some thing for my friend to other country, i ask them.
