Finally Moving!

Guestposter5402.

It is now official! I have retired after more than 45 years of government service and we are heading back to Belize! All of our extraneous belongings have been sold and we plan to visit a few friends and family before we board the plane.

We are looking forward to meeting some of the people on this forum once we get there. Our place is in Roaring River so we will definitely look up the San Ignacio/Belmopan crowd.

Y'all take it easy down there. See you soon.

@Robby How do you like Belmopan/Roaring River?  What made you choose the interior of the country as opposed to one of the coastal cities and would you consider anywhere else now that yuo have been in Belize for awhile?

@Barb I bet you are getting excited with the move just around the corner!  I hope all goes well and will be interested to hear about your journey.

@balespa: I can't nail down any specific reason for our move to Belmopan, just a lot of intangibles. Joyce and I have traveled to many countries and during the 80's we lived for several years in Central America, so we looked at Belize with experienced eyes. We knew what to expect here and we added our own preferences to the mix. Certainly the weather was a factor, as hurricanes are a constant threat to the coastal areas. The cost of housing was another factor and the interior is cheaper than the trendy/touristy coastal areas. Another factor was golf. I like the game; I don't play it well, but I like it. There is a golf course in Belmopan, the Roaring River Golf Course. It is short course (par 63) but very challenging (accuracy is all important here. The course favors the short game masters). We stayed there in May, met the proprietors, Paul and Jennie and Joyce and Jennie immediately became friends. They also had a house for rent that abuts the golf course. How perfect was? Anyway, those were a few of the factors that influenced us.

Now as to your second question: If I wasn't happy here, I would move to San Ignacio. It is a little cooler, a little hillier, the rent is cheap and the town has a lot happening.

I hope that this helps you in your decision. The important thing is: establish your priorities and your expectations. then visit and find the place fits your needs.
