Rental Lease Term

yc24

Hi all,

I know someone with rental properties who reached out to a lawyer and asked them if they could reduce the term on the lease from 1 year to 6 months after the contract is up. Basically a new contract for 6 months. They were told they cannot due to "new" laws/regulations, the minimum is 1 year.

She will try to reach out to another lawyer.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this?

The property is in Puerto Plata.

Thanks in advance.

I'd like to know more about this too. I thought I read something to that effect in a news article a few weeks ago, but law is complicated and news articles are short. I filed it under "tomorrow at Tara" for now, but it would be good to know.

I just read the act and it says the time of the contract is determined by the 2 parties.

Try telling them you are going month to month now.
