Tax on investments

robear440

I'm seeing different info on taxation on canadian investments. We are planning on retiring to Dominican an I've seen where Canadian rrsp investments are exempt from dominican taxes, but then I read somewhere that this only applies to the first 3 years. Any one else living off their rrsp investments? Do you have to pay Dominican taxws on this income? Thanks in advance

You can read over the Canadian Tax Treaty with the Dominican Republic.  I believe you will pay Canadian taxes and are then exempt from Dominican taxes.  Since it's a Canadian investment, Canada will be first in line.  That's my understanding but you should check with CRA and you can google the Tax treaty.

Thanks. I read that on the cra  site, but saw on a Dominican post somewhere that it only was for first 3 years. Gonna have to dig deeper. Hoping to make the move before the end of the year.
