Pros and Cons between Scotiabank and Banco Popular?

Hello,

No I did not open a Scotiabank acct. down here. Just in Canada. It allows me all the services without charge including buying pesos from the machine and getting an international exchange rate.

I do all my banking on-line and it's all very simple and easy.....

Hi Atavi, I am a Canadian and I also bank with Scotia in Canada.  I did open an account here in Punta Cana too.  Its not the same service or the same company, but mostly I thought the service was very good.   In the end, I found their fees were higher than other banks and they didnt disclose why they kept taking fees.  Once I transferred my $2000 to pay a bill, and it I never arrived in the recipient bank account.  The bank took 5 days to find it but made me feel like they were doing me a favour.  There was no explanation.

This is a lovely place but dont expect the same disclosures or services as Canada/USA.

I do not have a D.R. Scotiabank acct. I do not transfer funds from Canada to the D.R.  However, my Canadian Scotiabank debit card gives me free access to Scotiabank machines in the D.R. I withdraw 10,000 pesos whenever I need paper money.

All my banks are in Canada and I do on-line banking from here. My credit card accounts in Canada are automatically paid off at the end of every month. I use those cards down here and get the international exchange rate.
