I'm finding it extremely hard to see these forums and sites so, well, abandoned. It's as if there are no expats anymore - which there are, more than ever, but I wonder where are people nowadays: social media only?

Anyway, my name is Fil and I've been an expat in the U.S. before, came back home for a bit and now I am looking to relocate to Jamaica for my boo. In the meantime, I search and research everything I can, from law and legalities, to culture and history, but even more so a job!

Looking forward to hopefully see this place come back alive!

I think that people looking to move to Jamaica are on several platforms as they serve different purposes and have different dynamics. In which region are you ? Are you looking to meet Jamaicans in your area ?

I am yet to move to Jamaica, but I will be on the South side, in Portmore. I was trying my luck for community building a few days ago and decided to post on Reddit and... several members of two different forums sure showed why the platform has such a terrible reputation. From demanding information to insulting me simply because I am moving TO Jamaica... I read all sorts of bashing of the island and its people that day from them, so I decided to retreat, delete and pause my attempt to reach out for people.

The racism was blatant, the disrespectful level at which a simple "Hi, I'm wondering if there is anyone from Portugal currently living in Jamaica?" kind of post was received was quite something.

Better days will come, I hope.

Hello I'm Dee. My intentions are to retire to Jamaica in 3 yrs,  preferably to the city Negril. In the meantime, I will continue to work and plan my exit. I'm doing my research. also formed a few friendships or acquaintances because I do like the nightlife. I have a 3 year plan and I will come at least once or twice a year to learn the locations, culture and the people.  I went to Jamaica for vacation and felt like I was home and the hospitality here is warm & welcoming. I know fake mannerism, but these ppl are the real deal in being genuinely nice. Well, thats my introduction I hope to learn from others & excited to be part of a supportive platform.
