Work permit for the partner of a non-EU expat with work permit B

Bvspavan

Hello guys,

Season greetings!
I am currently working in a R&D group of a steel company in Belgium. I moved to Brussels for this job in May 2018 on work permit type B. I got the visa (D type visa) based on this work permit issued initially for 1 year though the job contract has no time limit.

My question is when I need to get my partner in the near future under the family reunification/spouse visa to Belgium, would she be able to work in belgium?
Or does she need to apply for a work permit herself to be able to work?

What are the necessary procedures to be followed if any of the above questions do not fit the situation?

Kindly provide some details in this regard.
Looking forward to your replies and many thanks in advance.

Regards
Sai Pavan

She is eligible to work in Belgium PROVIDED she is offered a job by her prospective employer with the understanding that she currently does not hold the work authorisation. Once she has the offer letter, she herself can apply for the work permit, which reportedly takes 3-4 weeks to process.

She needs to collect the application form from the Brussels Nord office of Citizen Welfare. Then she needs to fill up the form with personal details, and also the employment details. Certain section needs to be filled in by the employer also, I guess.

Best Regards,
Sanjay

Hi Sanjay,
One more query regarding the ability to find an emplyer willing to provide work authorization.
How tedious is it for a non-EU national to find  such employer (especially in IT background) willing to apply for the work permit of a person on dependent visa?

Thank you in advance.

I personally think, as IT is least dependent on language constraints, it should be comparatively much easier than any other professional streams.
