Best place to find English/English speaking people

RachelG1980

Hi, I am looking to move to Bulgaria,  around October 2024, I am looking at somewhere between Plevan and Apriltsi maybe Lovech, Troyan or possibly somewhere smaller. I would be looking at renting initially and then hopefully looking to buy. I am widowed, I was married to a Bulgarian lady who sadly passed away in 2021, her family live in Plevan and I am able to stay with them for a short while until I find my own place.

Where would be the best place to find English/English speaking people to associate with as I do not speak much Bulgarian. Thanks

Hi We are also in the process of  finding somewhere initially as a holiday home. Dont know enough yet to advise you but plenty on this site who do. We are looking at properties n the foothills of the Balkans near Sevlievo and not to far from VT.

A few Brits in Agatovo  Italian, Danish. lots of properties free, all need renovation/upgrading  about 30 mins from Lovech and 45 mins from VT.

Thanks for the info, sounds promising then!

The VT region seems to have a lot of British expats, especially around Popovo.

But there are expats almost everywhere, it seems!

Tread a little warily - you may find out the hard way why many expats prefer to meet others purely on social media and not in person: all that glisters is not gold....1f60e.svg

@JimJ thanks!

Talking about the Bulgarian language, which you mentioned in your earlier post - please be aware that the various AI apps (and Google Translate) are very unreliable when it comes to translating text from English to Bulgarian (and other languages!).  Be very careful if you use them, or you will very likely find yourself in an embarrassing linguistic morass... 1f60e.svg

@JimJ yes, I stayed with family for a few months last year and found this to be the case! We did manage to get by with it though.
