You'll be up against bodgers who've never heard of 'Elf-n-Safety and employers who couldn't care even if they have. It's all about saving money here when it comes to building - even the big construction sites are like warzones in that respect.

I've had idiots in flipflops scrambling up and down scaffolding (it's rather aptly called "skeleton" here 馃槑) outside my house, with several "last minute saves" and a few hard landings. Luckily, none of them took the full "4-stories down and land on concrete tiles" route but it was close once or twice. A guy who used to do our roof/gutter cleaning fell off a neighbour's roof a couple of years back - the neighbour just drove him home and he was found dead in bed of his injuries the following day.... 馃槹馃槨
