I'd like some information on this subject as well please. I'm with Postbank but husband is selling his late Mums house and wants to open his own account with a different bank.

We use DSK, and we've been happy with them for years; I'm aware that other people apparently haven't had such a good experience - I don't know if that's down to language problems, too high expectations or some other factor(s)..

Any bank that is really good in English?. App can be changed to English etc?

Thank you

We use bulbank, cannot have joint account through them so just have 1 account with second card.

Main branch in VT no issues and speak English.

We really should do better on learning Bulgarian.

My husband is proxy on my account but doesn't gave a card, we wanted a joint account but this is what we ended up with

Just opened an account with Fibank .... helped by my Bg stepson but the clerk spoke English ...... its interesting how they dont disclose this from the start, so i went through most of it via my stepson navigating. ID card, passport required of course. Website can be converted to English. Good account details.

Europe has done away with the Sort code ... so if you are transferring money in ..... just put the BIC code in the sort code space .... if required. I was going Southern Hemisphere to Bg.

They don’t like joint accounts for some reason. When we opened our accounts with UBB she seemed horrified that we wanted a joint one and we have ended up with separate ones. It’s annoying as my husband takes no interest in banking, budgeting etc.

@jeanmandredeix

You can have the equivalent of a joint account without any real problem: one of you opens an account, and you then get a notary to create a POA for the other person (or persons if you are ambitious 😎) to have full authority to operate that account.  It doesn't hurt to ask your bank if there's a particular form of words they prefer included in the POA.  The POA is then registered on the bank's system and you're in business.

My wife and I have run all our bank accounts like that for years - and it makes things easier if one of you is incapacitated (or worse) at any time...

Couldn’t be asked, we have the two accounts. We were there for more than 4 hours so I was just pleased to get the accounts going.

Indeed BG Banks are not joint account friendly. My partner and I finally had success with Postbank but due to several issues as impossible internet access with non Bulgarian phone provider or updating internet access without informing customers as well as 5 euros monthly fees we decided to close account. TBI offers joint account too but submitted to Sofia head quarter agreement which was denied to us without any explanation.

I've just picked up this thread, because I'm coming over next month. I've been told by the Bulgarian Embassy in France that I need to open a Bulgarian bank account to qualify for the Visa D, so I need to open an account while I'm there. Someone suggested DSK because apparently you don't need to own a property, or have a residency card. Not sure how accurate that is, but they don't have great reviews, although maybe that varies depending on the branch. Ideally I'd need a branch in either Topolovgrad, or Elhovo. If anyone has any recommendations I'd be grateful for your input. Cheers. Elaine.

We've been with DSK for years - the service has been fine, and we've even had staff in our local branch yelling at their colleagues at head office because they didn't understand how their own systems work (the yelling did the trick...😎)
