cash,euros or lev.

hi,iam visiting veliko tarnovo in march,and I will need to have some cash on me when I land.is it best to have euros or lev?.

Hi on personal experience get Leva, you can use Euro's in very few places hotels etc, everyone opts for Lev, try and get a good spread of notes too, anything too large you might be upsetting people before you've got going. Don't forget you can always go the atm machines too? (you may see prices advertised online in Euro's but in store the currency is Leva and long may it last  :top: )
Enjoy your visit, the currency is easiest worked out by 2 lev = around €1 so half your amounts to work out Euro then convert roughly to Sterling.

Its best for you to take cash and exchange into Lev when you get to Bulgaria.

Official exchange rate BGN/EUR is 1.95583:1 and it doesn't fluctuate.

Banks normally use 1.96 / 7 as an exchange rate. Anything close to it is  a good rate.

You can exchange money in every single bank office and there are many .... actually at every corner.

Almost all shops would require payment in Leva.
